Common Fill

Common Fill

Excavated material with rocks up to 18 inches in size, fill dirt derives its name from its primary purpose: filling depressions or holes in the ground and shaping mounds. Primarily utilized for land grading, its primary use is usually in shaping land grade or elevation.
Unlike topsoil, fill dirt is subsoil, sourced from beneath the topmost layer. This ensures the absence of organic matter or biological activity, comprising elements such as sand, rocks, stones, and earth. The utility of fill dirt in construction projects lies in its lack of organic matter.
Organic material decomposes over time, leading to voids within the fill, which can result in shifting or settling. Hence, it's imperative to procure clean fill dirt that undergoes thorough screening to eliminate organic matter and ensure stability in the long term for Construction projects.
